Bursa Metropolitan area ranked as the 4th fastest growing economy among the 300 largest metropolitan areas in the world, according to study released on Thursday Jan. 22, by the Brookings Institution.
Macau, China, was the world’s top-performing metro area in 2014, followed by the Turkish cities of Izmir, Istanbul and Bursa. Nineteen of the top 25 ranked metropolitan areas were in Turkey or China.
In the study, Bursa Metropolitan area was considered as a Sub-Region along with Eskisehir and Bilecik provinces. Between 2013 and 2014, the employment in Bursa went up by 6.4%, at the same time GDP per capita (based on PPP) reached $21,507 with the increase of 1.8%.
In the last 5 years data, the employment rate improved by 2.4% and the GDP per capita boosted by 2.6% which makes Bursa the 20th fastest growing metropolitan area among world’s 300 largest areas.
