Turkey Prime Ministry Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey (ISPAT), which holds the Presidency of the World Investment Promotion Agencies Association (WAIPA), organized 21st World Investment Conference, with the participation of the investment agency presidents over 100 in Istanbul.
This year, the 21st World Investment Conference was held in Istanbul, with the participation of Bursa Eskişehir Bilecik Development Agency on October 13-14th, 2016. WAIPA, which is from 170 countries and more than 130 regional investment agency that are members of, has moved its headquarters from Geneva to Turkey in 2015 and this year guests from all over the world has had the chance to get to know about Istanbul and Turkey.
ISPAT and WAIPA President Arda Ermut said that, ”We are planning to support Foreign Direct Investments in developing countries and in the upcoming period it will be planned to support foreign direct investment, which focuses on human rights, environment and the sustainable investment.” at the conference’s opening speech.
Under the main theme of “Inclusive Investments and a Sustainable Future”, conference was followed by as more than a hundred countries of the Investment Agency Chairman and members; UNCTAD, UNIDO, OECD, The World Bank, International Economic Development Council, senior representatives of the International Labour Organization, private sector, academia and civil society organizations members. There was a participation of senior managers of institutions such as The World Bank, International Labour Organization, the Islamic Development Bank, in two days. During the conference, steps were tried to be specified for Investment Promotion Agencies to take active role, in order to achieve development objectives determined by United Nations.
With the extensive participation to the conference; Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet ŞİMŞEK, Turkish Airlines Chairman İlker AYCI, ISPAT and WAIPA President Arda ERMUT and also WAIPA CEO Bostjan SKALAR made statements on important issues which is relevant to the agenda. With the participation of other distinguished guests, event had a big success and attraction.
